It’s extremely rare that the 3DS doesn’t top the weekly Japanese sales charts. Then again, it’s rare to see the Wii U outselling the PS4 in North America.
Anyway, the 3DS LL (the Japanese version of the XL) sold 22.8K, while the standard 3DS sold a smidge under 5.1K. The 2DS has not launched Japan, though.
Meanwhile, in runner-up position is the Vita with just under 22.2K sold, while the Wii U sold 10.6K. The PS4 sold just slightly more than the PS3, it sold 8K compared to the PS3’s 7.4K.
The Vita TV sold 2.4K, while the original PSP at 1.4K. The Xbox 360, which does extremely well in the US, has sold 201 units this week. Microsoft’s consoles don’t ever do well in the region, with the original Xbox selling just 2 million in a span of 3 years, while the 360 only sold 1.5 million in the span between 2005 and 2011. That’s probably why the Xbox One hasn’t launched yet in Japan.
